Feldkirch in Austria’s Vorarlberg has maintained its medieval character. Amble through Cobble stone alleyways, arcades and century old buildings. High on a hill stands the Schattenburg, once the seat of the Count of Montfort and later passed on to the Habsburgs. History is omnipresent and famous literati such as Carl Zuckmayer, James Joyce, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stopped here during their travels.  Feldkirch is well known for its city festivals: The Montfort Medieval Market in June is celebrated by the entire city as they did 800 years ago. In April winegrowers and wine lovers alike meet at the “Vinoble Feldkirch”, the largest wine fair in West Austria.  The “Feldkirch Festival” also takes place in June. Another popular celebration is the Wine Festival at the beginning of July. Street performers and jugglers enliven the town center during the “Gauklerfestival” at the end of July.
The “Feldkircher Advent” is a magical time and especially atmospheric with the “Blosengelmarkt”, the Christmas Market and Advent singing.
